Local Propwatch: San Diego Proposition D – Alcohol Ban On The Beach

UPDATE:  MEASURE D WINS.

YES

53.15%

NO

188815

46.85%

San Diego’s Prop. D, which wants to ban alcohol consumption on the beach, ya know…like every other beach in Southern California.  Prop. D also shows what people will do to fight for their right to party.

Ya gotta love how the No-On-Ders framed the whole issue as a civil liberties issue.  To donate to the No-On-D campaign their website asks you to “Buy a Round of Freedom!” The highest donor levels are “Founding Fathers” and “Patriots Circle.”  Hilarious.

Then there’s the No-On-D YouTube Channel with 13 single-issue videos, including smear videos about the proponents of the measure.  We also like the Two Minute and Fifteen Second local news piece about the “stolen campaign signs” complete with a description of the alleged perp!

Listen, the complaints may be liegitimate, but at the end of the day, wouldn’t it have been much cooler to knock it off with all the phony libertarianism and just straight up tell people that you like getting drunk on the beach?

Not that I like “getting drunk” at the beach, but why do Libertarianism and enjoying a drink at the beach have to be mutually exclusive? Is it impossible for people be Libertarians and enjoy relaxing with some suds on the sand? You make it sound like those of us who are against Prop D have to be either phony Libs or else closet suds-sippers. Think again.

The founding fathers of our country certainly enjoyed tying one on. They were the strongest Libertarians. There’s nothing phony about what the No On Prop D movement is about.

…and by the way, the SD Young Democrats are sponsors of the No On Prop D push, along with the County Libertarian Party, Republican Assemblymen (current and retired), and City Councilmen. Even our City’s Republican Mayor will be voting against Prop D.

Have a good night, and see you at the polls tomorrow, eh?

I am embarrassed by my fellow safe beaches supporters who claim the ban would make the beaches safer.

these two issues are NOT linked
there isnt even a statistical correlation

We have to face the facts, there are issues, and there are solutions, but this is not it.

    The easiest solution is two fold;
1 – zone the beach, alcohol OK and alcohol free, just like the ocean, surfing OK, surfing NO
2 – lets fund our local police, they deserve it and we need them

Why does everyone think you are a drunk if you want to have a beer on the beach? Don’t jump to conclusions and accuse me of being a drunk because I like to have cold one on the beach. Speak for yourself and not everybody else.

I’ve only heard of the yes vote stealing signs. You need to think twice about who the belligerent ones are.

I’m voting No on Prop D

This is a CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. Punish the people who are the problem. 99.9% of the citizens of San Diego know how to behave at our Beaches, Bays and Parks. We have 30 laws on the books to punish that .1% who may break them.

Do we really want to govern our city down to the lowest common denominator with New Restrictive Laws?
