Proposition 10 is Winning: Who is Voting Yes and Why? Somebody Please Explain. And No, Obama Did Not Endorse It.

Yesterday’s Field Poll shows that “Yes” on Prop 10 is winning with a 49% to 32% with 12% undecided.  Unless something changes, it’s headed for victory.  Ugh.  Why?

If somebody,  after addressing both sides of the Prop. 10 arguments, gives us rational reasons as to why they’re still voting “Yes”on Prop. 10, we will give that person a forum right here on this page to pimp-your-prop to your heart’s content.

We’ve already discussed what a scam Prop. 10 is and how every credible environmental AND business organization is against it,  but people are falling for it.  But what’s distressing is how one group is falling for it in greater numbers than others: Obama voters between the ages of 18-34.

We’re basing this conclusion on the fact that according to yesterday’s Field Poll, 62% of all Obama voters polled are voting “Yes” on Prop. 10 and that 64% of all voters between 18-34 are voting “Yes.”

We blame two things. First, the “No-On-10″ campaign was out-gunned by the $15 to $20 million T. Boone Pickens put into the “Yes-On-10″ campaign.  The  Yes-On-10ers spent a lot of their dough on TV spots that did an excellent job of targeting younger Obama voters.  Go watch a couple of them, they’re all very cutting edge, mellow and feel like “the future” — in other words, very Obama-esque.

Second, we suspect that there was a widespread “ground game” that misled voters into thinking that everyone from President-Elect Sen. Obama to environmental groups endorsed Prop. 10.  We’re basing this on two pieces of evidence.  First, there was the deceptive email campaign which lead people to believe that Obama endorsed Prop. 10  Thankfully, according to Bob Brigham at Calitics, the Obama campaign put the smackdown on that nonsense.

Email with False Claim that Obama Supports Prop. 10

Email with False Claim that Obama Supports Prop. 10 (from The Swarm at SacBee)

OK, true..the deceptive email campaign happened after the Field Poll was conducted, but it makes us wonder what else they were doing. For example:  The San Francisco Chronicle ran a “Yes-On-10 op-ed by someone identified as a “board member of the League of Conservation Voters”, even though the League of Conservation Voters are opposed to Prop 10.

Please shed some light. What are we missing here?  Who out there is voting “Yes” on this hoax?

And listen, we’re not saying T. Boone Pickens is a bad guy “just because he’s rich.”  In fact, we just took in a basketball game with him the other night. He is playing by the rules and working the billionaire-friendly California ballot proposition system to his advantage, just like so many others. But as The Swarm said:  “It’s hard to remember another proposition in which voters have been so fooled into lining the pockets of a billionaire.”

Unless someone can give us a rational explanation as to us why there’s so much love for Prop. 10, we here at Johnny California recommend a NO vote and beg politely ask other “No” voters to tell 10 people they know to also vote “No.”

Please tell everyone you know to vote NO ON PROP 10. We can’t beat Pickens’ millions, but we can get the word out person to person.

The good news in the Field Poll is that voters who said they already voted were rejecting Prop 10, by a margin of 48% to 43%. This indicates that if voters take a moment to read up on it they see through the glossy ads. But we can’t assume that Election Day voters take the same time to review as absentee voters. We need to spread the message today. NO ON 10!
